Solo Trip to Hawaii: What It Taught Me About Peace

Sasha Stamps didn’t start as a brand—it started as a return home.

Before I ever knew what travel meant to me, I lived in Hawaii as a child and began elementary school in Honolulu. At the time, I didn’t realize how much that experience would shape me. Hawaii in the 90s was a blend of cultures, people, and perspectives, and being surrounded by that at such a young age quietly planted something in me—a love for water, for movement, and for experiencing the world beyond what I knew.

Years later, I found myself back there.
This time, alone.

What was supposed to be a random, spontaneous trip—I bought my ticket just two days before leaving—turned into something much deeper. The moment I arrived, it didn’t feel unfamiliar. It felt like something in me recognized it. Like I was reconnecting with a version of myself I had forgotten.

Hawaii feels like a dream until you’re actually there alone—and then it becomes something deeper.

The water is clearer. The air feels different. And everything slows down in a way that forces you to pay attention.

That trip wasn’t just travel. It was a reset.

I extended my stay because I wasn’t ready to leave. I spent my days taking long walks alone on the beach, sitting in silence, and trying things I had never done before—like skydiving for the first time. I wasn’t just exploring the island. I was exploring myself.

At the time, life felt heavy. Things were gray. I didn’t have everything figured out, and I wasn’t sure what direction I was supposed to be moving in. But that trip shifted something in me.

It reminded me that where you go changes you.

Not just physically—but mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Traveling alone in Hawaii also taught me something real. It’s beautiful—no question—but what people don’t talk about is how quiet it can feel when you’re alone in a place that’s often seen as something you experience with others.

Couples. Families. Groups.

And then there’s you.

At first, that contrast can feel heavy. But if you lean into it, it becomes powerful.

Hawaii taught me peace.
Not the kind that comes from everything being perfect—but the kind that comes from being okay with yourself in silence.

That trip pushed me in a direction I didn’t expect—but one I needed.

Since then, I’ve been traveling consistently for the past two years—sometimes with my sister, sometimes alone—exploring over four countries and continuing to build a life that feels aligned, intentional, and free.

Through it all, I’ve learned that following your heart and listening to God will always lead you where you’re meant to be. It may not always make sense in the moment, but it always pays off in ways you can’t predict.

Travel gave me freedom at a time I felt stuck.
It gave me purpose when I needed direction.
And it helped me step into who I’m becoming—as a writer, a traveler, and someone committed to walking in alignment with my path.

Sasha Stamps is a space where I share that journey—through solo travel, destination experiences, practical insights, and honest reflections.

It lives under CommonTravel, a travel-focused division of CommonWork Group, built to create meaningful travel experiences and resources for people who want more than just a trip—they want growth, clarity, and connection in how they move through the world.

This isn’t just about places.
It’s about transformation.

Welcome to Sasha Stamps—
where you go changes you. ✈️✨
